Ash Ketchem's Height Discussion... UPDATED

UPDATE!!!
In the XY anime Ash is 5'00 with his hat on and around 4'11" with his hat off, all thanks to this picture from a target Pokemon #Pokemon20 event:

We now know Pikachu is measured from the top of his head, and not its ears at 1’4”. If you line it up with some setter/Model/reference sheets, things line up pretty good.

It’s hard to tell because I can only find old wobbly settei references, but I believe he was taller in older anime series. In XY he is exactly 5’00” with his hat, in older anime’s he is 5’02 with his hat and 5’00 without his hat.

What have I learned from all this, well one is that Ash is the height of a normal, American, 10 year old, boy, and two.... Pokemon sizes in the anime are ALL over the place, lol! Maybe the anime uses Pokemon Go logic and Pokemon can be XS to XL, XD.

Lastly... I'm only 8" taller then Ash Ketchum, the boy makes me feel short... T3T

This week I've been trying to draw some of my Pokemon Trainer OC's in the Pokemon Anime style, but I've stumbled upon an age old question that I can never figure out... and always leaves me second guessing how tall my OC's are.

" How tall is Ash Ketchem? "

I've found a few forums saying that they have the "official answer", but they never cite there sources/shown there references, or they use screen shots of the show that are unreliable and inconsistent. Now, I have been looking into this all day and I think... THINK, I might have gotten his height down.

So let's look at the facts:

1. Basing trainers by Pokemon Heights-

Pokemon heights in the anime.... are bull! Pokemon in the anime world can be different sizes, shapes, shades of colors, attitude, then from what you see in game. In-Game Charizard is 5'07, but in the anime Charizards can varior in size, one reason there so big is because Ash and his buddy's have to ride on it. The Pokemon anime bases they height of Pokemon more on the connivance for the show then on game facts. So, I can't really base Pokemon size on Ashes height.

2. Playing with the Settei/Reference Sheets-

I made a 8ft scale in Photoshop and then used the actual Official Pokemon Anime Model sheets as reference to see how everyone, not just Ash looked height wise.

I when off of the "Ash's Official Height" claims that had no reference.

First I tried the claim Ash is 5'05...

That gray line around everyone's knees is Pikachu's height, they use this like using heads of the trainers to measure a characters height.

If Ash was 5"05

These heights feel a bit too tall... The average adult male in the USA is about 6"00. Standing at 7ft tall, sure professor Rowan might be just a tall man, but Jessie and James are that tall too, with Brock who is still a young adult who still has some growing to do... meh... it just seems too tall to be true to have that many people be 7ft tall.

If Ash was 3"11

I use to believe Ash was 3"11-4"00 for the longest time, because if you watch Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, Ash is just a smudge taller then Lucario, who stands a 3"11, also Pikachu stands at 1"00 at the top of the head and 1"04 with ears up. Pikachu actually matches up with its in game size... But as I learned with time Pokemon Heights in anime are baloney! Movies can be more accurate in height then the show because they spend more time paying attention to details, but this is still an unreliable way to get Ashes height. Though they are all on the short side, this height could still be plausible if everyone was Japanese, but everyone has different nationality. So with this height I'm still 50/50. I mean the average women height is 5"02, while the average women height in the USA is 5"04... still looking a bit on the short side.

3. Basing Ash's Height on Average Real Life Height-

Ash is from what I can tell, a Japanese boy who is around 10 years old.... YES, he is still ten, the show mentions it here and there normally at the beginning of ever season. (I don't want to argue about this because I too would like to see him age). Ash stays 10 because the writers for the show don't want to age him, for lord knows what reason. Anyways.... The average 10 year old Japanese boy is 4"06 inches tall... and would you look at that! Not only dose Ash look the right height, but other characters start matching up to normal heights as well.

This is what I like to think! Ash is 4"06, 10 year old boy. It seems to fit with everyone else heights and it gives other characters room to grow, without being to short or too tall.

That's my days worth of research? What do you guys think? Am I close, am I flat out wrong, do you know the answer to this age old question?! If so, let me know and please show your work and references. I really want to get a answer to this age old question, and I'm just guessing off of what I learned to day. ^u^

#1-20.

Hoenn Contest Ribbons- (R/S/E)
Beat and earn each of the 20 contest Ribbons.

#21. Artist Ribbon- (R/S/E)
Defeat a Master Ranked Contest, artist in Lillycove City will give it to you.

#22. Effort Ribbon- (R/S/E/D/P/Pl/X/Y/OR/aS/S/M/US/UM)
Max out a Pokemons EV stats to 510.

#23. Champion Ribbon- (R/S/E/FR/LG)
Defeat the champion in R/S/E/FR/LG.

#24.Winning Ribbon- (R/S/E)
Pokemon must be level 50 or under, and must have a winning streak of 56 times in the Battle Tower.
- Banned Pokemon: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Egg

#25. Victory Ribbon- (R/S/E)
Select OPEN LEVEL, and have a winning streak of 56 times in the Battle Tower.
- Banned Pokemon: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Egg

#26. Earth Ribbon- (Colosseum, XD)
Defeat 100 Pokemon Trainers in a row on MT. Battle. (You can’t switch out Pokemon on team.)

#27. Nation Ribbon- (Colosseum, XD)
Purify a Shadow Pokemon. (This is kind of an event ribbon only, because only shadow Pokémon can have it.)

Generation IV Pokemon Ribbons (D/P/Pl/HG/SS)

#28- 47.
Sinnoh Contest Ribbons- (D/P/Pl)
Beat and earn each of the 20 contest Ribbons.

#48-54. Daily Ribbons (D/P/Pl/HG/SS/X/Y/OR/aS)
Given away on different days. Monday- Alert, Tuesday- Shock, Wednesday- Downcast, Thursday- Careless, Friday- Relax, Saturday- Snooze, Sunday- Smile.

#55. Sinnoh Champion- (D/P/Pl)
Beat Sinnoh Champion Cynthia.

#56. Legend Ribbon- (HG/SS)
Defeat Red on MT. Silver.

#57. Gorgeous Ribbon- (D/P/Pl/OR/aS)

Win 49 battles in a row and defeat Palmer.
